Humble: Living the Letter to the Philippians

8 September, 2024 - 13 October, 2024

This fall we will be working through Paul's letter to the Philippians as a church. Philippians is one of the most caring and joy-filled letters in the New Testament. Paul planted the church in Philippi and had strong affection and concern for them, and they for him. In this letter of kinship, the Apostle Paul updates them on his situation and also encourages them to unity in Christ and love for one another. The church was experiencing some challenges from without as well as some tensions and posturing from within. Paul sets before them the example of Jesus (and others) who embody the countercultural virtue of humility expressed in acts of sacrificial love. It is by being humble and thinking of others first, that the Christ followers in Philippi can "live as citizens of heaven in a manner worthy of the gospel of Christ" (1:27).
