Blessed. Uncovering the real meaning of what it means to be blessed by God (Matthew 5:1-12; Luke 6:17-26)

"Blessed." It’s a word we often hear and more frequently see on social media (#blessed), but do we ever consider what it really means to be blessed? Particularly, blessed by God? Jesus speaks to this very question in his opening to the Sermon on the Mount in the gospel of Matthew. This passage, known as the Beatitudes, give us a window into what God values and considers what being blessed truly means. In this sermon series we will explore the meaning and significance what it means to be “blessed” through a study of the Beatitudes from the Gospel of Matthew (with an eye to Luke’s version). We’ll see how the Beatitudes are exemplified in the life and ministry of Jesus, and how they call us to follow Jesus with a renewed understanding of what it means to be his disciples.
