SUMMARY:Redeeming Human Sexuality
DESCRIPTION:What does it mean to be human? Is marriage just for a man and a woman? How do we understand sexual orientation or same-sex attraction? And how does the Bible serve as a guide in answering these questions? Every day the church faces these questions. More often than not\, the resulting discussions are likely to get heated. Perhaps it is time to take a step back for a deeper look at the issues in way that fosters civil discussion. \nOver four Sunday nights — March 17\, 24\, April 7\, and 14 — we will explore Christian approaches to sexual identity and gender from the fields of science\, the Bible\, theology\, and experience. Rooted in Scripture and conversant with the wider culture\, we will seek to understand better what it means to be whole beings in a way that is faithful to God’s call to live in his kingdom and love our neighbour. \nCourse Details \n\nSessions: Sunday evenings\, 5:30-8:00 pm in the MPR\nCost: $60/person for the entire four-week course (includes a light supper)\nSupper will be served at 5:30 pm followed by two 50-minute sessions (with a break in between)\nChildcare may be provided during the sessions if there is enough need (please indicate ages and number of children when registering)\nThis course is open to junior high age and up at parents’ discretion\n\nOutline of Sessions \n\nMarch 17 – Postures and Approaches – Tyler Williams (Greenfield; Affiliate Professor\, Kairos); Scientific Approaches – Heather Looy (Professor of Psychology\, The King’s University\, Edmonton).\nMarch 24 – Biblical & Hermeneutical Approaches – Tyler Williams (Greenfield; Affiliate Professor\, Kairos) & Jo-Ann Badley (former Dean of Theology at Ambrose Seminary\, Calgary).\nApril 7 – Theological Approaches — Randal Rauser (Investigator\, Veritas Solutions; former Professor of Theology at Taylor Seminary\, Edmonton) & Doug Harink (Professor Emeritus of Theology\, The King’s University\, Edmonton).\nApril 14 – Pastoral Care Approaches — Cory Seibel (Cornerstone Counselling and former Pastor at Central Baptist Church\, Edmonton) & Tyler Williams (Greenfield; Affiliate Professor\, Kairos).
